I'm sure many of you, if you collect vintage linens, have some hankies lying about. You can find a small heart pattern of your choice in a craft book from your collection or draw one freehand on tissue paper and cut it out. Take your hanky and iron on some fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the hanky. Trace your heart onto the wrong side of the hanky. Cut out your heart. You can stitch the heart wrong sides together with a blanket stitch as I have done, or you can machine sew it with right sides together and leave an opening in the side for turning inside out. Stuff with fiber fill and finish stitching. Attach a ribbon for hanging to the back center "V" of the heart and sew a button over the stitching to cover where it is attached to the heart. You can hang these year round in your home, hang on a Christmas tree, or give as a Valentine gift! Here are some examples of the hearts I have created from recycled vintage hankies and other textiles and trims.
The sachets I made were stuffed with fiber fill and a swatch of fabric that was scented with fragrance oil. You can also used dried lavender, rosebuds, etc. if you choose. The hearts with transfer pictures on them are made from tea stained vintage damask napkins.
